Founded by Don Antonio Lugo in the year
1810 on a land grant and patented by the
United States Government in 1847, Rancho
San Antonio became the birthplace of
Lynwood.
Lynwood takes its name from the dairy
and creamery founded in early 1900's.
Lynwood's population grew rather slowly
in the early years after incorporation
in 1921. In 1940's there were 10,000
inhabitants and by 1960 population had
increased to over 30,000. Today, Lynwood
is a vibrant city with a population of
over 70,000.
Lynwood is located on Long Beach
Boulevard and Imperial Highway alongside
the 105 freeway. The city is also close
to two major transportation arteries;
the Harbor and Long Beach Freeways.
Lynwood has excellent public
transportation including the Metro Green
and Blue commuter rail.
The Chamber of
Commerce
In 1922, local business people and
professionals opened city's original
Chamber of Commerce office on Long Beach
Blvd. During the depression in 1929, the
chamber closed its doors and reopened in
1946.
Today, the Chamber has grown to become a
viable force in the community and takes
an active part in the city's business
life and progress. The chamber works on
many projects, promoting Lynwood and the
business community.
The chamber is presently located at
10850 S. Atlantic Avenue, just
north of Imperial Highway. The
Chamber is a non-profit organization
dedicated to the development,
advancement and promotion of the
professional, business, educational,
civic, and cultural well-being of
Lynwood --- all of which make Lynwood an
ideal place to live, work and raise a
family.
